Week 2: Assistive Technology

In this weeks readings I've learned so much about technological support tools. It's amazing how many resources are at the tips of our fingers for FREE! Translate to Google #EduGIF informed me of how I can, with some time and effort, put together a grid of important words to allow not only teacher to student but student to student communication. In the school I am currently in we do have have some, maybe not a ton, but we do have language barriers.  In some situations when parents are calling or coming into the school to get information we only have one maybe two people in the building to translate. Now in knowing Translate to Google I have shared with our secretary so she can start playing around with it and get to know the tool. So if  ever in absolute need us as a school would  know that we have a tool to back us up. In a diverse classroom what can be better than to end the hardship of language barriers. I find that Chrome Extensions offer endless tools to help not only special needs students but everyone in general. No human is perfect, therefore, we could all pick one of Chromes Extensions to help us. I especially enjoyed the Beeline Reader extension that Chrome has to offer. I feel the color gradient they use to guide ones eyes through the lines of the paragraph is such an amazing concept for those who continually find themselves rereading sentences over and over again. Which I am always doing. I will be learning how to use that first in hopes that I will learn to enjoy reading and learning in ways that is made easier for me. I in my classroom settings have students who continuously struggle in reading, not necessarily because they don't know how but they struggle to concentrate and follow along on a Chrome book or even when we are reading of the Promethean Board. With knowing that Google has Beeline Reader to help the eye follow along with the sentences, I did give the information to the head teacher in our classrooms in hopes that we can apply it to our reading groups.
