Week 3: The Tales of Storytelling

In 2019, an American mother and wife Dawn Casasanto, started out on a path to become a Special Education Teacher. With the support of friends and family Dawn finally picked a school and started out on her new adventure. At Trinity Christian College, Dawn was introduced to a group of amazing adults that would soon be her support system during this challenging process. As her second class approached and the relationships formed a new challenge would be put upon her. Dawn and her fellow classmates started a Technology class that would have heads spinning; especially Dawns. With a bit of social media, a mass of information, and the endless and free tools that their computers have to offer was introduced to them, minds were blown. Not only were minds opened but new assignments were being designated. The more the professor talked the anxiety came upon the students. More and more information was thrown upon them. As Dawn sat at her desk, reading the material that was appointed to the students on Digital Storytelling, she was absorbed into the articles. Who knew that storytelling could have such an effect on ones brain.  Dawn found out through the readings that our brains are activated better if we listen to stories. When you think about the people you're  around on a daily basis storytelling is going on constantly. Are you more engaged when a story is being told? In Dawn's experience she finds that her, herself, has had many experiences in her own classroom. Dawn believed that with the use of social media to tell a story about the news or a specific subject like science that her students seem to be more engaged. She has seen first hand that students have done better on tests when listening to a story or lesson on line. Dawns younger students seemed to be more of auditory learners and reached  their full-potential with a little help from digital stories. Without technology in the classroom Dawn feels like her students would have been deprived of reaching their academic goals.
